The Pill, Your Period & The Moon.
It actually sings quite true when I say “We’ve all been on the pill once in our life” and for a plethora of different reasons. Troubled skin, irregular or heavy periods, contraception, the list for the pill is quite long. It seems like a knee jerk reaction from a doctor just to place women on synthetic hormones to solve hormonal issues.
Western medicine is known for its symptomatic relief without really questioning or exploring if there is something going on behind the symptom. Taking a pill for the rest of your life seems like a simple and easy response.
But is it?
There is so much research now into the female contraceptive pill and just how disruptive it is. So what does this pill actually do?
Synthetic hormones “Trick” your body into thinking it’s pregnant, which means it stops ovulation.
This results in:
-Weight gain
-Loss of natural hormonal cycles that allow us fully embody the feminine!
-Mineral depletion, specifically A, D E & K
-Loss of libido
-Disrupted thyroid function
-Change in pheromones (smell) which can lead to wrong choice in partner because of a distorted chemical attraction.
-Long-term use of “The Pill” may affect fertility
Women ovulate for ½ - 1 day out of the month, which creates a 5-day window for conception (if your lucky). I feel like education around ovulation and female cycles to be a much more natural and gentle form of contraception. Young girls knowing about their cycles and how they can fall pregnant is much more powerful and INTENTIONAL, than shutting off the function all together.
If we were experiencing any other underlying issues that would result in a prescription of the pill would it not be worthwhile to explore a more holistic approach that would look at the root cause of the issue. Opposed to the “Band-Aid”/ “Pill” solution?
I like asking these questions! When I was 15 I was prescribed the Pill because I had extremely long periods. It’s taken me years of irregular cycles and self work to discover what the underlying issue was and honestly it came down to a lack of self worth manifesting in my womb. I wonder, had of I been able to resolve this issue earlier, could have I avoided a lot of pain in the form of dysfunctional relationships? When thoughts like this occur I remind myself to surrender to the notion divine timing and trust the process' of my life. Hindsight is a miraculous tool that allows us to look back and notice all the synchronicities that we overlooked, but it’s not something to dwell on (so I have learnt). Keep moving forward.
Whatever is going on within you, is communicating, to you.
Our bodies are communicating.
We need to listen, instead of the western way of shutting it up (symptomatic relief). This solves nothing long term and in turn creates more dis-ease & disconnect within our bodies.
The world is changing and we are beginning to accept we aren’t victims to mysterious disease and events. We are now powerful creators of our own reality and you no longer need to give your power away externally.
*** HOW TO CYCLE WITH THE MOON!
So for years while I was trying to stabilise my cycle I looked into A LOT of alternate methods, one of which was moon cycling! It’s very simple and very easy to synchronise your period with the cycles of the moon.
Some women ovulate with the full moon and bleed on the new moon. Some women ovulate on the new moon and bleed with the full moon.
I read that one is known as a ‘white witch’ and the other a ‘red witch’.
One cycle once that one is the maternal cycle, for creating children and one cycle is the creator cycle for creating & birthing projects.
You can research this if it excites you, however I conceived my daughter on a new moon, which contradicts this so I am a firm believer in trusting whatever resonates with you and I do believe we can over intellectualise a lot of things at times.
I bleed on the full moon and ovulate on the new moon.
Full moon represents clearing and letting go, which makes sense to bleed with this moon.
New moon represents planting seeds and setting intention, so it makes sense to me to ovulate with this moon.
Whichever moon you synchronise with; Is right for YOU.
When we synchronise with the moon we are synchronising our internal tides and energies with the tides and energies congruent with the earth. We are literally moving and flowing with the natural movements of earth. It also gives us a natural connection to our sisters as we ebb and flow together.
Ok so you want to cycle with the moon?
It’s literally as simple as this.
Go outside, with intention and say hello (to the moon)!!
Acknowledge the presence of the moon and what she does, controls the tides, the waters and know she can do the same with the water inside of you.
I would suggest making a ritual of it for a month, if you feel guided to OR for as long as you may like.
I used to do nightly moon meditations and leave what I would call “Moon water” outside to be activated by the moon. If you do decide to do this please use a glass bottle – so it can absorb the light of the moon and drink it first thing when you wake up, set the intention for the water to balance your period with the moon.
A simple meditation to connect with the moon would be, infinity breathing which simply is: breathing in for 8, holding for 8, breathing out for 8, holding for 8 and do that cycle for 8. If you struggle to get to 8, lower the count and then increase it when you can until you reach 8.
Please let me know if you plan on synchronising your period with the moon or even if your period is already naturally synchronised with the moon! I would love to connect.
